“The way you perform actions with your hands influences a bunch of different cognitive functions, including language and emotion – and, we know now, visual perception.”
– Daniel Casasanto –
Think your team’s diverse perspectives are just about different opinions? New Cornell research reveals left-handers and right-handers literally see the world differently, processing high-frequency visual details in opposite brain hemispheres – proof that cognitive diversity starts at the neurological level. This “action asymmetry hypothesis” shows our brains organize around how we physically interact with the world, suggesting the most innovative teams need people who don’t just think differently, but perceive differently.
