On this day in 585 BCE, two armies deadlocked for six years dropped their weapons mid-battle and negotiated peace before sundown, because a Greek philosopher named Thales had predicted the eclipse that interrupted them. Six years of bloodshed collapsed in a single afternoon, undone by one person who saw further than everyone else on the field.
