WEDNESDAY — PERSPECTIVE & PRACTICE
“The quality of the final espresso depends on many aspects, including how the grounds are packed, how long water passes through the coffee, and the size of the grounds themselves.”
— Andrew Paul, Popular Science
An international team used X-ray micro-tomography and percolation theory to map the invisible pore spaces inside a coffee puck and discovered that the variables most people ignore (packing density, grain connectivity, surface area) are the ones that actually determine the outcome. Leadership works the same way. Visible inputs get all the attention, but the quality of what comes out the other side is almost always decided by the pore spaces nobody’s measuring.
