Belief vs. Truth.
150 years ago yesterday the United States purchased Alaska in a transaction known widely as “Seward’s Folly.” This nickname leads many to believe that the Alaska Purchase was regarded at the time as foolish and unpopular. The reality, however, is that this misperception is “one of the strongest historical myths in American history… [that] persists despite conclusive evidence to the contrary.”
We all believe in myths born from unexamined assumptions… and these beliefs do not serve you well. They may involve your product or service, your competitors or even your own team. Your challenge is to examine these beliefs, determine which nonfactual ones are holding you back and then kick the offenders to the curb.
