In 1578, Sir Martin Frobisher held a Thanksgiving celebration in Newfoundland during his third attempt to find the fabled Northwest Passage. This was the first European Thanksgiving in North America (sorry, Pilgrims) and kept with the English tradition of offering days of Thanksgiving for acts of “special providence.”

Sir Frobisher never did find the Northwest Passage, yet afterward he evolved his purpose into different pursuits (including service with the notable pirate Sir Francis Drake). In that way, Sir Frobisher’s life mirrored Thanksgiving itself: ever-changing, always evolving and forever adapting to the current modern era.

So today as you enjoy your own day of thanks, consider what the coming year means for you, your business and your team. How will you evolve and, as you do, in what way will you give thanks?
