The next time you fire up your internet machine for some online shopping, keep in mind that “a large number of reviews is not a reliable indicator of a product’s quality.”
Research shows that we have an inherent bias toward products with a larger number of reviews. This is because we treat review quantity as shorthand for a product’s popularity, independent from the product’s average rating.
These findings have serious ramifications for product retailers and manufacturers. For today, though, simply consider buying the well rated product with fewer reviews. Happy shopping.
