“The future, like everything else, is no longer quite what it used to be.”
– Paul Valéry –

When considering what tomorrow may bring, it’s often useful to examine prior ideas about what “today” might look like. Case in point: In 1899, French toy manufacturer Armand Gervais commissioned a series of postcards depicting life in the year 2000. Gervais died during production and the cards were never used at the 1900 Paris World exhibition as intended. Rediscovered decades later, they offer an insightful peek at several past views of a possible future. To view the cards, Click here for Lost Futures: A 19th-Century Vision of the Year 2000. (My personal favorites are Un Baleinobus and La Chasse aux Microbes. Enjoy!)
