A company recently boasted that their website prominently features the “technology” that they use. They then asked my opinion on this verbiage and I inquired whether they’re equally proud of their ballpoint pens or the quality of the blacktop in their parking lot… they stared at me blankly.

Most folks don’t care about your technology unless you’ve either invented it or it’s some type of fundamental systems-level disruption. And even then… meh. Technology may help create the conditions for your value proposition but it is NOT your value proposition. Don’t ever confuse or conflate the two.
