The vast majority of us go through our lives without thinking about the Selective Service system and military conscription. Yet women now comprise approximately 17% of the active duty military and their role as leaders and combat participants has changed significantly since the All-Volunteer force was established in 1973. These conditions make for a lively debate involving equity, fair play, legality and culture.
