“lo”
– Charley Kline –

Fifty years ago today, the first online connection was made when UCLA student programmer Charley Kline sought to remotely connect with a Stanford Research Institute machine. Unfortunately, the system crashed before he could spell out “login” making the very first message ever sent on the internet “lo.”

New technologies inevitably have difficult formative years which makes it easy to disregard their future relevance. Yet what if instead of laughing at the “lo’s” of today you asked yourself which ones might be an indispensable part of life tomorrow?
