Within the Pennsylvania-German Christmas tradition there’s a little-known companion of Saint Nicholas who either provides children with candy or… (wait for it)… hits them with his switch. He is the Belsnickel.

I’ve known executives who manage like a Belsnickel and chances are that you have, too – because they usually hide in plain sight.

If you manage like a Belsnickel, your sun has already set. Move along. If you work for a Belsnickel, though, I bring you good tidings for the coming New Year. Opportunities exist for you elsewhere where you need not wonder whether you’ll receive candy or be beaten with a birch rod. You need only take action.
