This Friday, as you prepare for the upcoming three-day weekend, I bring you an unexpected story of disruption wrought by a Belgian dentist.
You’ve probably never heard the term “Fastest Known Time” (FKT) unless you’re into trail running or backpacking. It’s a hyper-competitive niche within the outdoor community and, until this past Tuesday, it’s dedicants followed tried and true practices dominated by conventional wisdom.
On August 28, 2018, the FKT community’s conventional wisdom was upended when Karel Sabbe set a new record of 41 days, 7 hours, and 39 minutes for running the entire Appalachian Trail. Sabbe‘s new record demolished the previous FKT by a full four days.
Four days is an eternity in the FKT world and, as you kick back this weekend, I encourage you to take a few minutes and click here to read a profile of Sabbe’s forty-one day sprint from Springer Mountain, Georgia to Mount Katahdin, Maine. I guarantee that Sabbe’s unconventional approach (and story) will inspire you and it may even spur you to challenge some conventional wisdom in your own world.
Have a great holiday weekend.
