The Linkedin flame war was initiated by the company’s President / Owner. It was brief, troll-like and had nothing to do with business. It also yielded great insight into his personality.

A day before the troll was fed, a different executive told me that she goes out of her way to be the best possible version of herself at all times. She said that not striving toward that ideal is a disservice to their staff, board and customers.

We all have an inner troll that occasionally clamors to be freed – your quest for authenticity may even tempt you to release that troll. If you’re striving to be your best, though, pause and ask yourself: Do you control the troll or does the troll control you? As Horace wrote, “Anger is a brief madness: govern your mind [temper], for unless it obeys it commands.”
