Most of us don’t pay much attention to business models. They run quietly in the background of our lives and only rarely warrant attention. But that quiet chug-chug-chug is only possible because someone went first and proved that the model works.

This weekend, if you’re looking for some inspiration about pioneering business models, I highly recommend the Planet Money episode How Desi Invented Television. It profiles Desi Arnaz, who until now I only knew as as the real life (and television) husband of Lucille Ball… but he was so much more.
