“Biology gives you a brain. Life turns it into a mind.”
– Jeffrey Eugenides, Middlesex –
It turns out that you’ve got two brains – the one in your skull and a second one in your butt. A large neuron population resides in your gastrointestinal tract and may have a greater impact on your mood than your “primary” brain. So if you’re looking to better regulate your mood, stop looking at your head and instead trust your gut. Because healthier bacteria down there may just help you pull your head out of you-know-where.
