“Design is really an act of communication, which means having a deep understanding of the person with whom the designer is communicating.”
– Dieter Rams –
Good design is arguably an extension of mindfulness as it applies discipline, focus and rigor to an end result. Regardless of whether you’re building software, providing services or executing in the world of tangible good and products, good design is paramount and its best expressed by famed designer Dieter Rams. Per Dieter, good design:
1. is innovative.
2. makes a product useful.
3. is aesthetic.
4. makes a product understandable.
5. is unobtrusive.
6. is honest.
7. is long-lasting.
8. is thorough down to the last detail.
9. is environmentally friendly.
10. involves as little design as possible.
It’s worth keeping these principles in mind as good design transcends the creative class and impacts everyone in business. And I do mean everyone.
