The problem with “conventional wisdom” is that it’s based on past experience, which is not a predictor of future success. For example, conventional wisdom said that the Wasserman-Wolf problem, which has confounded scientists for 60 years and known since the time of the ancient Greeks, couldn’t be solved… until a Mexican physicist cracked it earlier this month.
