In 1834, two French bankers exploited a bug with the way the mechanical telegraph handled backspace characters and manipulated trading data to gain an advantage in the bond market. This is arguably the first cyberattack or “hack” and serves as a wonderful reminder that the convergence of technology and business make security a business issue.
