In a triple-locked vault somewhere near Paris, the original kilogram is housed… and it’s shrinking. This unexpected observation forced the good folks at National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to figure out a way to redefine what constitutes a kilogram. (Spoiler alert: They did it!)
