Today your brain is going to do a whole bunch of heavy lifting. Then tonight, while you sleep, the flow of blood to your brain will diminish and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) will wash in to clean out the debris of your cognitive crunches. But, unless you’re engaged in slow-wave sleep (which is the sleep that occurs between periods of dreaming) your brain isn’t effectively taking out the trash.
