Today your brain is going to do a whole bunch of heavy lifting. Then tonight, while￼￼￼ you sleep, the flow of blood to your brain will diminish￼ and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) will wash in to clean out the debris of your cognitive crunches. But, unless you’re engaged in slow-wave sleep (which is the sleep that occurs between periods of dreaming) your brain isn’t effectively taking out the trash.
